Stephen E. Braude PhD

He is a Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Former Chair of the Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County - UMBC (USA). He has authored seven books, including “Immortal remains: The evidence for life after death” (2003) and “The gold leaf lady and other parapsychological investigations” (2007). He has received numerous fellowships, awards, and grants, including but not limited to the National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship. In addition to his work in parapsychology, mainly in macro-psychokinesis and evidence for life after death (particularly mediumship and reincarnation/possession), he has published in a wide range of areas, including the philosophy of science and philosophy of mind.

He studied Philosophy and English at Oberlin College (USA) and at the University of London (UK), and in 1971 he earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA).

After working as a lecturer in the Philosophy Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he found a permanent home at UMBC, working successively as an assistant, associate, and full professor. He is a past President of the Parapsychological Association and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Scientific Exploration from 2010 to 2021.
