Peter Fenwick MD

He is a Neuropsychiatrist and Neurophysiologist, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London (UK). He had a longstanding interest in brain function, the relationship between the mind and the brain, end-of-life and near-death experiences. With an extensive research record, he published over 200 papers in medical and scientific journals. His books include “The truth in the light: An investigation of over 300 near-death experiences” (1995), “Past lives” (1999), “The art of dying” (2008), and “Shining light on transcendence: The unconventional journey of a neuroscientist” (2019).

He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge (UK), where he studied Natural Science. He obtained his clinical experience at St Thomas' Hospital (UK).

He served as a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at both the Maudsley and John Radcliffe hospitals and provided neurophysiology services for Broadmoor Special Hospital. He worked with the Mental Health Group at the University of Southampton (UK) and held a visiting professorship at the RIKEN Center for Brain Science (Japan). He was also a Former President of the Scientific and Medical Network, the Horizon Research Foundation, and the British branch of the International Association for Near-Death Studies.

He passed away in November 2024 at the age of 89.
